Divided we stand The political parties are finalizing their line-up of candidates for the legislative council election in September. The Democratic Party and the Democratic Alliance for Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, the two oldest parties competing in the geographical constituencies, are faced with a common problem. They both have a queue of "second-tier" party members who have waited for years for a real chance of fighting for a Legco seat.

Back to the futures  If approved by the Securities and Futures Commission, the new Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange (HKMEx), formed by private companies, will go into operation early next year, and start selling contracts priced in US dollars for fuel-oil delivered to the mainland.
