US PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH

Dear President Bush,

The Democratic Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong (DAB) is abhorred by the brutal and inhuman treatment of Iraqi Abu Ghraib prison detainees by United States soldiers. The abuse of Iraqi prisoners by US troops is unethical and the brutality an obvious violation of human rights and international law.

The DAB strongly condemns these hideous crimes committed by the US military. Rape, sleep deprivation, battery, aggravated and/or indecent assault and intimidation by threat are wrong. The US-led blatant disrespect for human rights and human lives have been demonstrated in the uncovering of disturbing photographs and evidence of the cruelty and torture is evidence of gross American hypocrisy.

As the Commander in Chief of US military forces and as the leader of the coalition forces, you owe the international community, and especially the victims, an apology for these abhorrent and wanton acts of abuse. Anything less than that would amount to further "assault" on the Iraqi people's human rights to life and dignity. Evidence of criminal acts is unequivocal; any further denial of this fact is undeniable. Those in violation of human rights and offenders of such demeaning exploitation of human suffering must face justice and be liable for their crimes. We demand that a full and open investigation into these incidents and a critical review of interrogation and detention practices be conducted at once in addition to your government's immediate apology to the victims, the Arab World, and the International Community.

These truly "evil" acts will not be tolerated. The United States - the "world police" - owes the international community a duty of care when allowed to invade a foreign country in the name of "freedom."

Sincerely,

MA LIK

BRITISH PRIME MINISTER TONY BLAIR

Dear Prime Minister,

The Democratic Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong (DAB) is abhorred by the brutal and inhuman treatment of Iraqi detainees at the British-controlled Basra camp in Southern Iraq. The abuse of Iraqi prisoners by British troops is unethical and the brutality an obvious violation of human rights and international law.

The DAB strongly condemns these hideous crimes committed by both British and American troops. The wide-range of aggravated and/or indecent assault and intimidation by threat are wrong. The British troop's blatant disrespect for human rights and human lives has been demonstrated in the uncovering of disturbing photographs and evidence of the cruelty and torture is evidence of gross hypocrisy.

You and your government owe the international community, and especially the victims of these horrendous acts, an apology for these abhorrent and wanton acts of abuse.

The United Kingdom owes the international community a duty of care when allowed to invade a foreign country in the name of "freedom."

Sincerely,
