DAB issues New Year Declaration: Chan Hak-kan vows to keep helping Government tackle social challenges head‑on
1 January 2026

DAB leaders, advisors, NPC deputies, CPPCC members, LegCo members, political appointed officials, district councillors, and branch chairpersons gathered at Tamar Park today to mark the first day of the new year with a group photo and a declaration delivered by Chairperson Chan Hak-kan, who also extended warm wishes to all Hong Kong citizens.
Reflecting on the past year, Chan noted that Hong Kong's economy had continued its steady recovery, its financial hub status had grown stronger, and the development of the Northern Metropolis had gathered pace, injecting new vitality into the city. However, he also acknowledged that the Tai Po fire had been a sobering reminder that serious social issues remain to be addressed. Safety, he stressed, is the most basic requirement for every family, and development is a shared responsibility of the entire community. The DAB firmly believes that, with the solid foundation of "One Country, Two Systems," the people of Hong Kong possess the resilience and wisdom to overcome challenges — and that the DAB will never shrink from its responsibilities.
Looking ahead, Chan said the DAB will contribute its policy expertise to the SAR Government and work closely with it on the follow‑up to the Tai Po fire, including strengthening safety inspection systems and reviewing building maintenance mechanisms. The party will also push for practical reforms to plug any gaps, so that residents can feel safe and secure in their homes.
On future challenges, Chan emphasised that Hong Kong must move beyond a spectator role and actively integrate into the national 15th Five-Year Plan, leverage its advantages in finance, trade, and shipping, accelerate the development of the Northern Metropolis, and build a new engine for technological innovation — so as to create broader development opportunities for the next generation.
In the new phase of "patriots administering Hong Kong," all DAB members will continue to serve the community, listen carefully to residents' concerns, relay their voices to the government, and support the effective implementation of policies to address social problems.
Chan concluded by emphasising that under "One Country, Two Systems," Hong Kong benefits from the strong backing of the nation while maintaining its unique international strengths — enabling it to seize new opportunities amid change. In 2026, the DAB will remain fully committed to working alongside all sectors of society to build a better Hong Kong. Together, we will build a better home.
